Think Pink
The Wolves girls’ volleyball team played a pretty in pink match against Hinkley High School on October 8 to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. The Wolves volleyball team provided pink shirts for all varsity volleyball players, including players on Hinkley HS team, to promote “Think Pink” night at Westminster High School. Hinkley HS also contributed to the Think Pink night by donating $175 to the cause. Message from Ms. Price
September 2008
Dear Ranum Family,
Welcome to Ranum High School, now home of the Wolves! The 2008-09 school year is underway, and we are very excited about the upcoming year! We have several changes that have taken place since our last newsletter. Ranum now has in attendance juniors and seniors only as we begin the transition to the opening of the new Westminster High School in the fall of 2010. Our administrative team has a different composition as well. Dr. James Duffy, Executive Director of Student Services, oversees high schools and is serving as the administrator in charge at Ranum. Anthony Matthews and I serve as Assistant Principals, and thus are responsible for the day to day operations of the school, and Tom Evans is now our Dean of Students.
The Ranum building has also experienced several changes over the course of the summer. The Educational Services Center (ESC) has been relocated to Ranum High School in the west wing of the building. During the summer, the ESC was demolished in preparation for the building of the new school. We now share the student parking lot with the ESC as designated by blue parking spots for the ESC, and white spots for our students. The counseling office has relocated to the Main Office, and Mary Morris now serves as our bookkeeper in the main office as well. Room N115 has been converted to the new Board of Education meeting room, where monthly Board meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
As we move through the transition to the new high school, our athletic and many of our activity programs have already combined with Westminster High school into one program beginning this year. All of our athletic teams are underway and competing as the Westminster Wolves. We compete this year at the 5A level in all sports, yet still remain a part of the Skyline League (which is a combined league of 4A and 5A schools) for all sports except football. We compete in the newly formed Big 8 League for football only. There is a daily shuttle that departs each high school at 2:30 to transport students to the opposite site for practice and/or activities.
We have combined with Westminster for many activities as well. Homecoming week will be a joint venture coordinated by the Student Councils at each school, starting off with the Parade, Carnival and Powder Puff on October 4, 2008. Each high school will have a separate powder puff game though. The Pep Assembly and other Homecoming Week activities will take place in the evening during the week, with more information to come. The Homecoming Game will be held vs Regis on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 7:00pm at District 50 Stadium, and then the Homecoming Dance will be at Westy on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 7:00pm. Other combined activities include the Marching and Pep Bands, Speech/Debate, Drama, Dance Team, and LaRaza Youth Leadership.
There are many activities which will also remain as specifically Ranum focused. Graduation will be our own, with students wearing the traditional Ranum green gowns. Ranum will host our own Prom in the spring, and continue with the Senior Banquet. We will also have our own newspaper, yearbook, junior class, senior class, orchestra, choir, Knowledge Bowl, MESA, National Honor Society, French Club, Spanish Honor Society, Anime Club, GSA, and Leaders’ Challenge.
Welcome to the start of another great year at Ranum! Please join us at our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 18 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. In addition, please check our website regularly for updated news and events! We look forward to meeting with you very soon!
Sincerely,
Karen Price
Assistant Principal, Ranum High School
